DEEPENINGS
Morphology of the object:
The hut has been realized with a mix of clay and straw set on a framework of poles and reeds; the roof was made of a wood structure of poles, tightly covered by numerous bundles of small reeds, tied up. One or two triangular openings on the roof, a kind of skylight, allowed the spillage of the smoke and a minimum of illumination, while the door was constituted by removable wood panels. The furniture and the inside organisation were simple: besides the area reserved to the fireplace and to the pallets to sleep, some wood tables could be used as ledges; terracotta vessels or containers drawn from the pumpkins or from the skins of the animals were used to contain food, drinks and grain.
Decoration:
As the models of hut used testify, in some centers in Tuscany to depose the ashes of the dead people, the external walls were decorated with the decorative motives generally used on ceramics.
